Jaroslav Halak stopped 40 shots, falling 8.1 seconds short of his second consecutive shutout of the New York Rangers, and the Islanders beat their biggest rivals, 4-1, on Tuesday night in Uniondale, N.Y., in their return from the NHL all-star break.

The Islanders have won all three meetings this season with the Rangers, taking the first two at Madison Square Garden, and outscoring them, 13-4, overall. Halak beat them, 3-0, on Jan. 13.

Henrik Lundqvist was also sharp for the Rangers in making 34 saves.

Flames 4, Sabres 1 - Flames rookie Johnny Gaudreau scored twice to lead host Calgary past Buffalo, extending the Sabres' team-record losing streak to 12 games.

The goals were the 14th and 15th this season for Gaudreau, a Gloucester Catholic High product.

Penguins 5, Jets 3 - David Perron and Brandon Sutter scored power-play goals less than four minutes apart in the third period and host Pittsburg rallied for a win over Winnipeg.

Kris Letang had a career-high five assists as Pittsburgh ended a four-game losing streak despite playing without injured stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. The Jet saw their five-game winning streak snapped.

Blue Jackets 4, Capitals 3 - Cam Atkinson and Fedor Tyutin each had a goal and an assist, and Curtis McElhinney made 25 saves to lead Columbus over visiting Washington.

McElhinney, starting in place of top goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who will miss four to six weeks with a groin injury, made several big saves down the stretch.

The Capitals have lost four in a row.
