Florida State rewarded coach Jimbo Fisher with a new eight-year contract, keeping him with the team through the 2022 season. The university announced the deal Tuesday, less than a year after Fisher's last contract extension.

The No. 3 Seminoles are 58-10 since Fisher replaced Bobby Bowden before the 2010 season. Florida State won the national championship last year and the team is in the midst of a school-record 29-game winning streak.

Details of the contract were not immediately available. His current deal pays about $4.1 million per season.

The Seminoles leave for California on Friday in preparation for the College Football Playoffs semifinal against No. 2 Oregon at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. That was the site of their 34-31 win over Auburn for the national title last season.

Player of the year

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is the Associated Press college football player of the year, adding another honor to his spectacular season.

Mariota has thrown for 3,783 yards with 38 TDs and just two interceptions.

Colo. State hires coach

Colorado State is bringing in Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo as head coach. Bobo will take over for Jim McElwain, who left for Florida after leading the Rams to one of their best regular seasons in program history (10-3).
