The weather Wednesday evening was rainy and cold, but it didn't bother Camden Catholic quarterback Tyree Rodgers.

The junior completed 7 of 17 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown as Camden Catholic defeated host Paul VI, 38-15, in their annual Thanksgiving week game that dates to 1968. Rodgers was named his team's game MVP.

"I don't know many quarterbacks could have made the throws he did in this weather," said Camden Catholic first-year coach Nick Strom, whose team leads the series, 28-18-1.

Camden Catholic (8-2) also received three touchdowns from senior Malik Johnson, who rushed for 129 yards on 18 carries and added a two-point conversion.

The Irish led, 28-8, at halftime, and, by that point, Rodgers had completed 4 of 6 passes for 165 yards and a 78-yard touchdown to Johnson.

Paul VI (6-4) used receiver and Penn State recruit Irvin Charles in the backfield during much of the first half. Charles, who had just two carries all season, gained 94 yards on five first-half rushes and scored on a 21-yard run.

He didn't play in the second half. Charles said afterward that he had hurt his chest and had trouble breathing.

"I'm fine," he said.

Junior linebacker-running back Gavin Sentak was named Paul VI's game MVP. He gained 86 yards on 14 carries.
