Pennsbury senior Vinay Ramesh began the final round of the PIAA Class AAA Golf Championships on Tuesday in fifth place at Heritage Hills Golf Club in York.

Ramesh rallied to become the second boy in school history to win the title, defeating Ryan Dormes of Manheim Township on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Ramesh shot a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to force the playoff. Ramesh and Dormes each finished with a two-day total of 145.

Bishop Shanahan's Kevin Connors was second with 146, and Holy Ghost Prep's Steve Cerbara finished eighth.

In AA, New Hope-Solebury senior Ronald Massimino shot 149 to place second.

Garneel Azor rescued Central's dreams of repeating as league champion with a dramatic, second-overtime goal that gave the Lancers a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia Academy Charter in the Public League quarterfinals.

With five minutes left in OT, a bouncing ball found Azor in the goal box with his back to the net. The senior winger then used his heel to flick in the winning goal.

In other quarterfinals:

Hernando Villamil had two goals and one assist, and Olney topped Fels, 4-3, at Simon Gratz.

Abraham Kamara's late first-half goal was all Northeast needed to hold off Furness, 1-0.

Illia Borisov contributed two goals and an assist to propel George Washington to a 6-2 triumph against Ben Franklin at Northeast.

Catholic League quarterfinals. Top-seeded La Salle received two goals from Tyler Colasanto to advance past visiting, No. 9 Bonner-Prendergast, 4-2.

Patrick Madger had a goal and an assist as No. 5 Roman Catholic won at No. 4 Lansdale Catholic, 3-0.

Kevin Ceno tallied two goals to lead host No. 2 Father Judge past Archbishop Carroll, 6-2.

Tri-County Christian. Evan Needs scored in the 75th minute to clinch host Christian Academy's second straight league title, 3-2, over Gloucester Christian.
