With eight minutes left on Monday afternoon, Haddonfield freshman Sam DeCencio took a shot that was stopped on a diving save by Collingswood goalkeeper Patrick O'Donnell.

Luckily, fellow freshman Jack Dugan was there to send the rebound into the net and give the visiting Bulldogs a 2-1 Colonial Liberty boys' soccer victory.

It was Dugan's second consecutive winning goal.

The first-year play of DeCencio and Dugan has paid dividends for Haddonfield, according to Bulldogs assistant coach Jim Dugan, who is also Jack's father.

"I'd definitely say they're a one-two punch," Jim Dugan said. "They are very similar players. They're both skilled and mindful."

Their shared experience didn't just start this season. Since the age of 5, Dugan and DeCencio have played on the same team, only occasionally separated because of league age requirements.

Now reunited, Jim Dugan looks forward to continued success from the freshman duo, and Haddonfield has high hopes for them in the years to come.

"We're young and optimistic," Dugan said. "We're building for the future."
