Sat. Pa. boys and girls: Downingtown West succeeds in OT

Four minutes into overtime in a back-and-forth battle between visiting Downingtown West and Neshaminy, Mauricio Nava took over. Nava received the ball on a long clearing kick by Corey Englehart and drilled a shot from 20 yards past the Redskins goalie for his second goal of the game and a 4-3 upset win for the Whippets.

Before overtime, Neshaminy, ranked No. 3 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, held a 3-2 lead with less than four minutes remaining. Austin Graf, however, dashed all hopes of a regulation victory. A holding call in the box resulted in a penalty kick, and Graf scored a goal.

In other nonleague play:

Eighth-ranked Holy Ghost Prep received goals from Luke Duris and Connor Fife in defeating host Archbishop Ryan, 2-1. Duris had the game-winner, after a corner kick by Mike Kirby.

Conestoga topped West Chester Henderson, 2-1, overcoming a 1-0 deficit on the road with less than 10 minutes left. Danny Leiser and Matt Marcelli scored for the Pioneers. Marcelli's goal was the game-winner, with 1 minute, 50 seconds on the clock.

Lower Merion earned a win at Methacton, 1-0, on a header from Connor O'Hare. O'Hare took the header off a cross in the second overtime.

Girls' Soccer

Central Bucks South edged West Chester East, 4-3, in a nonleague game on three second-half goals, as the Titans overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit.

Abby Coco and Courtney Taylor each netted two goals for the hosts.

In other nonleague play:

Caroline Minderjahn scored two goals and Jillian Mikula added one as host George School blanked New Hope-Solebury, 3-0. Annalise Jennings made two saves for the shutout. New Hope-Solebury's Hannah Reszka stopped 10 shots.

Emily Maneri's first-half goal stood up as Conestoga triumphed at Unionville, 1-0. Maggie Stetson had the assist. Aly Maneri posted the shutout, recording four saves. Adrianna Weber stopped six shots for the Indians.

Girls' Tennis

Top-seeded Mihaela Codreanu defeated second seed Meredith Lee of Owen J. Roberts, 6-1, 6-2, in the championship match of the Pioneer Athletic Conference singles tournament at Perkiomen Valley.

It was the third straight conference singles title for Codreanu, a junior.

Cross-Country

Casey Comber of Hatboro-Horsham clocked in with a time of 15:44 at the 28th annual Council Rock Invitational to take first overall in boys' varsity.

Comber was followed by Rick Fortna of Central Bucks West and Brian Arita of Council Rock North, who ran 16:10 and 16:20, respectively.

In the girls' varsity race, Jessica Bauer of George School topped the field with a time of 19:01, beating Elise Claffey of Great Valley (19:15). Tasha Greene of Harriton took third in 19:35.

Carlisle High School Invitational. Ryan Rastatter of Bonner-Prendergast finished third in 16:26. Daniel Green of James Buchanan won in 15:55.

Brooke Hutton of Coatesville edged Kayla White of Kennard-Dale with a time of 18:59 to take the girls' race.
