Clearview racking up points, not wins

Clearview coach Mark Deal doesn't mind when his team punts the football.

"I told the team the other night, 'It seems like when we don't punt, we lose,' " Deal said.

Clearview didn't punt on Friday night against Paul VI. The Pioneers scored 55 points.

They lost, 60-55.

Last Nov. 8 against Washington Township, Clearview didn't punt. The Pioneers scored 56 points.

They lost, 63-56.

Remarkably, Clearview has played in the two highest-scoring games in South Jersey football history in the space of the Pioneers' last five games. Both were one-score defeats.

"I'm sure it's fun for the fans watching all that action, back and forth," Deal said. "But it's tough to coach."

Asked if he was looking forward to an old-fashioned, 7-6 win in the future, Deal said: "I'll take 2-0."
