West Catholic's football season started off on the wrong foot. Then Antwain McCollum used his right arm, and both his feet, to rally the Burrs to victory.
McCollum threw for 157 yards and rushed for another 110, and West Catholic shook off a rough first quarter to edge Haverford School, 24-19, in a nonleague, top 25 showdown in Wildwood.
The Fords led, 14-0, after one, but West Catholic quickly erased that deficit, taking the lead for good just before halftime when McCollum connected with Ahkil Crumpton on a 36-yard touchdown pass that made it 18-14. Earlier, McCollum ran in a 24-yard keeper to put the Burrs within two points.
Crumpton had five catches for 87 yards. Dave Swen, Jameer Bryson, and Neil Satterwhite grabbed interceptions for West Catholic, which is ranked No. 20 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer.
Phil Poquie rushed for 160 yards and a score for No. 23 Haverford School.
Also in Wildwood, Episcopal Academy defeated Neumann-Goretti, 28-6, thanks to three TDs (two passing, one rushing) by Ryan Whayland.
C.J. Hall hauled in a fourth-quarter TD reception and David Butler returned an interception for a score to seal a 27-17, come-from-behind victory for Simon Gratz over Lansdale Catholic in Ocean City.
Earlier in Ocean City, Vian Dolo threw for one score and ran in a pair of keepers, including what proved to be the winning touchdown, in Prep Charter's 26-19 win over Cardinal O'Hara.
Maryland-bound receiver D.J. Moore piled up more than 200 receiving yards and caught four touchdown passes, including the winner on a 34-yarder from Andre Dreuitt-Parks in the fourth quarter, as No. 5 Imhotep Charter clipped Ohio's Cardinal Mooney, 31-27, at Youngstown State. Mooney was the Ohio Division IV state runner-up last season.
Tre Green racked up 165 yards and two TDs, including an 80-yard run in the third, to lead No. 21 West Chester Henderson to a 36-14 win at Chester. Jason DePhillips recovered two fumbles for the Warriors.
Quarterback Max Bryson ran in the eventual winning TD in Bishop McDevitt's 33-14 victory over Pope John Paul II at Cheltenham.
Ray Gionta picked up a win in his Sun Valley coaching debut, and the Vanguards ended their 10-game losing streak with a 34-14 victory at Pottstown. Juwan Chandler scored twice.
Nasir Adderley scored off a run, a reception, a punt return, and an interception to lead Great Valley to a 54-0 win at Phoenixville in the first game for coach Dan Ellis.
Mark Lopez-Shefcyk ran in three TDs and threw for another as Truman triumphed in Jon Craig's coaching debut, 40-13, over visiting Bensalem.
Alexander Linton ran in a first-half touchdown and had 11 tackles and a sack, and Delco Christian held off High School of the Future, 18-16, at the South Philadelphia Super Site. Chris Bangura rushed for 109 yards and a score for Future.
Erik Andrews rushed for a TD, caught another and grabbed an interception in Olney's 32-6 victory over KIPP DuBois. Sultan Johns forced two fumbles for the Trojans.
