Cardinal O'Hara's Ted Field, a junior offensive lineman, committed Friday to play at Rutgers.
"I've always liked the family atmosphere at Rutgers," he said. "And the ability to play for a Big Ten championship is a great thing."
The 6-foot-5, 325-pound tackle, who played for Garnet Valley last season, took multiple unofficial visits to Rutgers in recent months.
"Coach [Kyle] Flood is one of the best," Field said. "Even before committing to the school, he and the other coaches make you feel like you're part of a family."
Field, a 16-year-old from Glen Mills, also had scholarship offers from Massachusetts and Temple.
"More offers might have been coming," he said, "but I knew it wasn't going to get better than Rutgers. That's the place for me. That's my home."
Baseball. Neumann-Goretti senior pitcher Pat Doudican committed to play at the College of Charleston.
Last season, the southpaw went 7-1 with a 1.53 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 592/3 innings while earning first-team all-area honors.
