O'Hara doubles at Catholic meet

Cardinal O'Hara literally outdistanced the competition at Saturday's Catholic League boys' track championships at Upper Darby. The Lions dominated the distance events, taking the first three spots in the 1,600 meters and the first two in the 3,200 to win the overall meet with 130.5 points.

Cardinal O'Hara literally outdistanced the competition at Saturday's Catholic League boys' track championships at Upper Darby.

The Lions dominated the distance events, taking the first three spots in the 1,600 meters and the first two in the 3,200 to win the overall meet with 130.5 points.

O'Hara's Kevin James won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 22.22 seconds, a hair faster than teammate Jim Belfatto (4:22.24). Two seconds later, Nick Smart crossed the finish line to complete the sweep. James then won the 3,200 in 9:17.88, nearly 30 seconds in front of second-place finisher and teammate Rob Morro (9:46.19).

Smart (1:55.08), Belfatto, and James finished 1-2-3 in the 800. O'Hara's Alexander Constantini won the discus (127 feet, 8 inches).

La Salle came in second overall, with 115.5 points. Grant Jones threw 187-2 to win the javelin, and Eddie Eason cleared 14-6 to take the pole vault.

Jordan Bryan of St. Joseph's Prep came within three inches of the PCL triple-jump record when he landed at 23-61/2. He also won the long jump (22-111/2).

Girls

Cardinal O'Hara repeated as league champion by taking the top three spots in the 800 and top two in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Olivia Arizin won the 800 in 2:22.33, with Marissa Cicione and Becky Chominski following close behind.

Amy Kelly won the 1,600 in 5:09.04, two seconds ahead of Grace Mancini. Mancini then captured the 3,200 (11:09.11) by two seconds ahead of Kelly.

Archbishop Ryan came in second place overall. Taylor Woods (300 hurdles, 45.84), Kel-Lisa Sebwe (pole vault, 9-6), Alison Jones (long jump, 17-101/2), and Amanda Simone (triple jump, 34-10) won titles for the Ragdolls.
