Tues. Pa. boys and girls: Malvern gets past Episcopal

There aren't many easy days on the Inter-Ac League boys' lacrosse schedule. Tuesday proved that again. Unbeaten Malvern Prep was pushed to the limit in a 9-8 overtime victory over visiting Episcopal Academy.

Unbeaten Malvern Prep was pushed to the limit in a 9-8 overtime victory over visiting Episcopal Academy.

Kevin McGeary scored the winner. He had two goals and an assist. Connor Glancy led the Friars (12-0 overall, 4-0 Inter-Ac) with four goals.

Adam Goldner, Kyle Anderson, and Jarett Donaghy also scored for Malvern Prep. Ryan Hilburn had two assists, and Charles Kelly won 13 of 20 face-offs.

Episcopal Academy (3-7, 2-2) trailed, 8-6. Dutch Buckley's second goal late in the contest knotted it, 8-8.

Curtis Zappala scored twice and had three assists. Chris Friedman had two goals and an assist, and Jake Martelucci and Tyler Haab each notched a goal and an assist. Brian Zappala made 12 saves.

Malvern Prep is ranked in the top 10 in the country by several services.

Girls' Lacrosse

Jane Crager's five goals paced Episcopal Academy to a 16-4 win at Penn Charter in the Inter-Ac League.

Crager also had two draw controls and three ground balls.

Emma Brumbaugh, Colby Gallagher, Taryn Gallagher, and Corrine Zanolli each scored twice.

Softball

Bristol rallied for two runs in the seventh inning and then scored again in the eighth to beat Auburn (N.Y.), 7-6, in the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Mary Wallick struck out 10 to earn the win. She also hit a two-run triple to left field to score the tying runs. Rose Scalzo drove in Alicia Reilly with the game-winner.

Field Hockey

Episcopal Academy coach Gina Buggy will be inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame on June 28. Buggy will enter the Hall with her teammates and coaches from the 1984 Olympic team that won a bronze medal in Los Angeles.

Buggy has won 381 games and 10 Inter-Ac championships since 1986 at Episcopal.

Football Recruiting

Imhotep Charter tight end Naseir Upshur, a sophomore, is scheduled to visit Arizona State this weekend. An Imhotep teammate, cornerback Deandre Scott, committed to the Sun Devils in the fall.

Coatesville defensive back Jay Stocker has received offers from Boston College and Cincinnati.
