Spotlight: Paul VI senior DeVahnte Mosley

DeVahnte Mosley used to be a big scorer.

"Back in middle school, I scored a lot," Mosley said.

Now a senior at Paul VI, Mosley still has his moments as an offensive player. He went for 12 points in a strong showing Saturday in the Eagles' 61-49 victory over Albany (N.Y.) Academy at Bishop Eustace.

But on a senior-heavy team known for its unselfish play, Mosley shares the basketball as well as anybody.

"Sometimes, I have to tell him to look for his shot," Paul VI coach Tony Devlin said of Mosley.

At 6-foot-2, Mosley is a versatile player who makes an impact for the Eagles at both ends - as a strong defender in the passing lanes, solid rebounder, clever passer.

Mosley lives in Winslow Township but spent his eighth-grade year in Collingswood, playing for Collingswood Junior High.

He stopped looking for his shot as much during his freshman and sophomore years at Neumann-Goretti in Philadelphia.

"You play with a lot of good players, you learn to share the ball," Mosley said.

Mosley said that's the case with Paul VI (15-1), the No. 1 team in the rankings.

"Everybody outside our team says, 'You should be doing this, you should be doing that,' " Mosley said. "We don't look at things like that. We all know our roles. I actually prefer getting an assist to getting a basket."
