City leagues teams advance in playoffs

Imhotep, Archbishop Wood and St. Joseph’s Prep have advanced to the PIAA semifinals.

CITY LEAGUES' schools scored a clean sweep over the weekend as Imhotep, Archbishop Wood and St. Joseph's Prep notched PIAA quarterfinal football victories with relative degrees of domination.

The AA Panthers blanked Catasauqua, 49-0, and at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Governor Mifflin High School in Shillington, Pa., will face Berks Catholic, which sacked Troy, 33-6. The District 3 Saints (14-0) feature a potent rushing attack with 59 rushing touchdowns this season.

Deandre Scott, an Arizona State commit, sparked the Panthers (11-2) with fumble and interception returns for touchdowns. They also received 414 rushing yards from Nasir Bonner (129), Tyliek Raynor (145), Mike Waters (58) and Rahmir Johnson (82).

Wood (13-2) blasted Academy Park, 42-14, in AAA play and will take on Berwick, which also mercy-ruled Clearfield, 44-7. That game will take place at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown at 7 p.m. However, the day (either Friday or Saturday) hasn't been finalized.

The District 2 Bulldogs are 15-0 this season and held down Clearfield's Boston College commit, Christian Lezzer, on the ground. However, Wood's balanced running attack, headlined by Jarrett McClenton but co-starring Josh Messina, Joe Dutkiewicz and Luke Spahits, will be a different test.

The Prep took care of Parkland, 21-10, and its reward will be a meeting with Neshaminy on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Charles Martin Memorial Field in the Northeast. The District 1 team from Langhorne (13-1) has been led on the ground all season by junior D'andre Pollard, who has more than 2,500 yards rushing this season with 34 touchdowns.

The Hawks (13-3) received a boost when senior QB Chris Martin returned from a left knee injury that kept him from their two previous games. Martin tossed for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
