On the softball field, Lauren Quense and Sam Offenback couldn't be a better unit for Neshaminy.

Quense is the starting pitcher for the Redskins and hits third in the batting order, and Offenback is the catcher and bats cleanup.

As far as tandems go, these two are beyond effective, dominating games defensively as well as offensively.

The two kept the routine going Thursday afternoon against Suburban One League National Conference opponent Bensalem, as the Redskins defeated the Owls, 15-2.

"You always have to come out feisty and pound every single team," Offenback said. "We are going to just have that mentality.

The Redskins (3-0 overall, 2-0 conference) scored three runs in the top of the first, but the Owls answered with two in the fourth. The game seemed as if it was going to stay tight, until Quense hit a two-run homer the very next inning.

One at-bat after the senior sent her second home run over the left-field fence in the sixth, Offenback, a sophomore, hit a shot that soared over the right-field fence.

"We planned it," Quense, who struck out 13 and batted in four runs, said, as they both laughed.

The Redskins went on to score eight runs in the sixth, putting the game out of reach for Bensalem.

The Owls (0-4, 0-2) have faced four of the top teams in the area to start their season, playing Central Bucks East, North Penn, Pennsbury, and Neshaminy.

All four are ranked in the top five in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer. The Redskins are No. 3.

"As a coach, it's an act of faith," Bensalem coach Dan Schram said. "It's the belief that we are ready to take that challenge."

"Right now, it doesn't seem like it's gone our perfect way, but I've got to believe that this will pay off dividends as it goes on in the season," he added.

Last season Coach Schram had two freshman pitchers, Morell and Jessica Rossick, both of equal talent, and in the travel softball world Rossick is widely considered the better pitcher. He used Morell 98 percent of the time, basically burning the kid out. He is doing that again this year, and does not have the option of pitching Rossick since after it was made clear she had no role with the Owls she opted not to play high school softball. The Owls and Morell are getting torched every game. Schram's personnel decisions have set Bensalem backwards again.
