Tues. S.J. girls’ roundup: Absegami stops Sacred Heart

Kelly Lupton set the Absegami school record for strikeouts and then survived a shaky seventh inning to hand visiting Sacred Heart its first loss, 5-4, on Tuesday in Cape-Atlantic League softball.

Lupton fanned 10 batters, increasing the senior righthander's career strikeout total to 532. The Braves' previous mark of 528 was set by Amber Beauchemin in 2008.

Becca Maguire doubled, homered, and drove in two runs for Absegami (8-4). The Lions (11-1) managed just three hits off Lupton, but mounted a four-run rally in their final at-bat.

In other Cape-Atlantic action:

Brianna Graham belted a grand slam and finished with five RBIs to help host Ocean City outslug Lower Cape May, 11-6.

Corie Collins hit a pair of home runs and scored three times as host Millville mauled Oakcrest, 14-4.

Gabby Banks (3 for 3, one run) and Rachel Rivera (2 for 3, two runs) aided the Thunderbolts' 12-hit attack.

Burlington County. Jenna Rodriguez roped a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning, bringing home Jamie Soles with the winning run as New Egypt rallied to edge visiting Rancocas Valley, 6-5.

Sam Beckett hit a home run with one runner aboard to fuel the Warriors' three-run third inning.

Tri-County. Breanna Worrell keyed the Deptford attack, batting 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and junior righthander Jenna Gayeski added a single, a double, and one RBI while limiting Salem to three hits in the host Spartans' 5-2 triumph.

Colonial. Zowie LoCastro singled, doubled, and tripled in knocking in three runs, and Kaitlyn Stoltz settled down to shut out Lindenwold after the first inning in Haddon Township's 15-1 home win.

Nonleague. Gianna Lacantore scored on a bases-loaded groundout and Skylar Carpenter followed with a two-run single, as host Overbrook broke through for three runs in the sixth inning to rally past Cherokee, 3-2.

Kate Bolden scattered four hits and three walks in shutting out St. Joseph, while Rachel Clifton and Abby Moran combined for five RBIs in Gloucester's 9-0 road romp.

Danielle Magaziner and Noelle Smith took turns picking apart the Westtown defense, with each scoring seven times to carry Moorestown Friends to a 17-11 road win in the Friends Schools League.

Nonleague. Samantha Reader totaled six goals and two assists while Lizzy Kerr scored five times and set up three goals in Maple Shade's 19-3 romp at Winslow Township.
