Sat. S.J. girls' roundup: Washington Twp. moves to final

Twin sisters Kelly and Kylie Giedemann combined for 27 points, sending second-seeded Washington Township past No. 3 seed Lenape, 59-40, on Saturday in a South Jersey Group 4 girls' basketball semifinal.

Alexis Sears had 12 points for the Indians, who were hampered by injury and foul trouble when the Minutemaids went on a 27-14 run over the second and third quarters.

In the other semifinal, top seed Shawnee couldn't buy a bucket in the early going against a full-court press, as No. 4 seed Toms River East grabbed a 12-point lead in the first quarter and went on to win the semifinal, 54-42.

Olivia Askin made three three-pointers in scoring 15 and Erin Molina added a dozen points for the Renegades, who finished the season with a 24-4 record.

The championship game is set for Monday, 7 p.m., at Washington Township.

South Jersey Group 2. Lauryn Fields led the way with 12 points and five assists, and second-seeded Middle Township ran out to a 10-1 lead in defeating No. 3 seed Sterling, 37-24.

Kristina Startare filled the stat sheet with four points, eight rebounds, two blocks and a pair of assists for the Panthers, who will host No. 5 seed Delran for the title on Monday at 7 p.m.

Central Jersey Group 2. Brianna Logan and Lauren Moses scored 16 points apiece, and the duo combined for 18 in the first half to start top-seeded Rancocas Valley on its way to a 62-44 semifinal romp past No. 5 seed Middletown South.

The Red Devils will host No. 2 seed Jackson in Monday's championship game.

South Jersey Non-Public B. Two-time defending group champion Trenton Catholic is heading back to the title game, after the second-seeded Iron Mikes dispatched No. 6 seed Roselle Catholic, 49-34.

Isis Young was the game's lone double-figure scorer, tossing in 18 points for Trenton Catholic, which used a 14-7 second-quarter spurt to build an 11-point lead.

Sacred Heart received 24 points from Lexi Bruno, but a 47-21 second-half blitz by No. 4 seed Gill St. Bernard's doomed the top-seeded Lions to a 64-51 semifinal loss.

Gill St. Bernard's and Trenton Catholic will meet for the crown on Tuesday at Jackson Liberty.
