Spotlight: Wildwood Catholic senior T-John Casiello

For Casiello, the best thing about getting to 1,000 career points on Friday night wasn't reaching a goal he set as a freshman.

It wasn't even reaching the same plateau as his uncle, Middle Township coach Tom Feraco, who scored his 1,000th point for Wildwood Catholic in 1976.

It was that Casiello scored his 1,000th point in the course of a 24-point performance in a big victory over Cape-Atlantic League United Division rival Pleasantville.

"That made it really special," Casiello said.

The 5-foot-10 Casiello, who plans to play next season at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, has led Wildwood Catholic (14-5) to 11 straight victories and sole possession of first place in the Cape-Atlantic United Division.

The Crusaders have gotten a big lift from the eligibility of senior transfers James Baumgardner, a 6-10 center, and Brandon Carrillo, a 6-4 forward.

But the key to one of South Jersey's hottest teams has been their senior playmaker and leader.

"We're just playing with a lot of confidence right now," Casiello said. "It's a lot of fun."
