Tues. Pa. boys’ roundup: Lower Merion downs Strath Haven

Lindheim snapped a 2-2 deadlock by converting an assist from Kenny Lassiter with 15 minutes to play, putting the Aces (9-1 overall, 5-1 league) ahead to stay.

Tyler Niles added a pair of goals to the win, and Lower Merion goalie Connor Yu stopped seven Panthers (3-3-3, 3-1-2) shots.

Also in the Central League, Harriton freshman Kevin Bendesky scored the first three goals of his career, highlighting a 3-1 win over visiting Garnet Valley.

Springfield (Delco) tripped host Marple Newtown, 1-0, as Zac Furia's corner kick in the 70th minute was headed by Mark Gurenlian inside the post for the goal. Cougars goalie Dave Sousa made three saves.

Ridley also won by 1-0, edging host Penncrest as John Saunders converted David Simpson's crossing pass for the goal in the 14th minute. Green Raiders goalie Andrew Rodabaugh made nine saves for his second straight 1-0 win.

Inter-Ac. After playing 75 scoreless minutes, Malvern Prep used Melvin Snoh's goal from Ian McLarney with 5 minutes left to slip past visiting Episcopal Academy, 1-0. Churchmen goalie Jay Farrell made four saves.

Haverford School turned single goals by Brett Campbell, Carlo DeMarco, Henry Glynn, Harrison Kendall, and Matt Pontecorvo into a 5-0 win at Penn Charter.

Germantown Academy's Dan Hoy scored in the 10th and 79th minutes for a 2-0 shutout of visiting Chestnut Hill.

Catholic. At the United German-Hungarian Club, Roman Catholic and St. Joseph's Prep battled to a 1-1 standoff. Prep's Tolu Ibikunle scored with 15 minutes left in the second half and Roman got an own goal off a deflected throw-in with 3 minutes to go.

Archbishop Carroll's Michael Newell and Monsignor Bonner's John Carey traded second-half goals, including Carey's game-tier from Shane Lawson's corner kick with 22 minutes left, for a 1-1 draw at Carroll.

La Salle spiked host Archbishop Ryan, 2-0, with an own goal, Ben Wild's penalty kick and Leonardo Romero's six saves in goal.

Suburban One. Ryan Smith converted Ryan New's assist for an insurance goal in the 63d minute as Hatboro-Horsham blanked host Quakertown, 2-0.

Eric Hibbs scored in the 97th minute from Nick Nikic as Wissahickon escaped with a 1-0 double-overtime thriller over visiting Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Abington goalie Sean Gannon sparkled with 19 saves, and Chris Tracey scored the rebound goal to give the host Ghosts a 1-0 win over Neshaminy.

Council Rock North senior Matt Zima scored his first varsity goals, collecting a hat trick in a 4-2 triumph at William Tennent.

Early goals by Miguel Diaz and Ben Marks stood up for Central Bucks East's 2-1 win over visiting North Penn.

Friends Schools. Sam Stein of Friends' Central scored goals in the 8th, 19th and 21st minutes to steer his squad past visiting Germantown Friends, 3-0.

Igor Gateniuk scored goals 21 minutes apart in the first half, igniting George School's 3-1 win at Moorestown Friends.

Abington Friends' Joey Harding converted a penalty kick 12 minutes into overtime to bring a sudden end to a 3-2 win at Academy of the New Church.

Bicentennial. Riley Woron's two goals helped provide the difference for Springfield (Montco) in a 3-2 win over visiting Delco Christian.

Devon Prep ran past visiting MaST Charter, 6-0, as Mike McKenna scored twice, and Rich Gallo, Andrew Shannon and Luka Zacharcxzuk had a goal and an assist apiece.

Christopher Dock defeated host Lower Moreland, 2-0, on two first-half goals from Robby Johnson and the combined goaltending by Seth Frankenfield and Zach Rice.

Public. Martin Luther King got two goals each by Kervens Begin and Kabine Conde against a strong goaltending effort by Bok's Andrew Mitchell to beat the host Wildcats, 4-2.

Tarek Kerbag dominated the offense for Franklin Learning Center during a 3-2 win at Bodine by scoring all three goals, including the game-winner with 20 minutes left.

Kensington sophomore John Pino-Anderson has 10 goals after scoring four times in a 4-2 win over visiting Palumbo. Pino-Anderson scored the tying goal in the 63d minute and the game-winner 9 minutes later.

Tri-County. A. J. Bishop's three-goal performance helped Phelps (5-0-1, 5-0) win a showdown of teams with unbeaten league records, 5-2, over visiting West-Mont Christian (6-3, 4-1).

In a game stopped by lightning midway through the second half, Barrack Hebrew collected a 4-0 win at Woodlynde. Michael Cahana scored twice and goalie Jacob Riech made four saves.

Golf

Spring-Ford's Bennett Detweiler carded a 1-over-par 72 at Gilbertsville Golf Club to win individual honors at the Pioneer Athletic Conference championships.

Detweiler edged Methacton's Corey Melnick by one stroke. The top 18 finishers qualified for the District 1 tournament on Oct. 11-12 at Turtle Creek.
