Fri. Pa. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Shanahan dealt first loss

On Friday, the Warriors received a two-hitter from Lauren Butts in a 2-1 Ches-Mont League win. Poppe was tagged with the loss despite giving up just one hit and no earned runs, striking out 12 and walking none.

Poppe also got the only hit for the Eagles (12-1 overall, 12-1 league), an RBI single in the first inning.

Butts struck out three and walked four in her seven innings of work for the Warriors (7-6, 7-6).

Jill Freese and Jordan Sheffield each had a pair of hits for host Oxford in its 4-1 win over Unionville.

Public. Nayirrah Bellinger pitched a one-hitter and helped Saul hold off host Bodine, 16-12.

Bellinger's teammates made eight errors that led to most of the 12 runs.

Host West Philadelphia took advantage of three walks in the fourth inning to score its final two runs in a 13-11 win over Simon Gratz, its first win in at least three seasons. Tashana Roache stroked a pair of doubles to pace an 11-hit attack.

Catholic Academies. Alex Stermel, a centerfielder and Temple University recruit, went 3 for 4 to lead Nazareth Academy to a 6-4 win at Villa Maria. The Pandas are 13-1, 11-0.

Bicentennial. Joyce Randolph's two-out, two-run, single in the bottom of the seventh gave host Girard College a 9-8 win over Lower Moreland.

Friends Schools. Maddie Durbin's seventh-inning single drove in the winning run for host Abington Friends in a 4-3 win over Friends' Central.

Tri-County. Alexa Turner stole second, third, and home in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and give Perkiomen School a 5-4 win at West-Mont Christian.

Nonleague. Haley Taylor's grand slam powered Pennridge to a 9-1 win at Upper Dublin.

Megan Wolf went 3 for 3 as Archbishop Ryan beat visiting Jenkintown, 8-5.

Baseball

Neither Archbishop Ryan nor La Salle could muster any offense between the fourth and ninth innings. But Brendan Bradley took care of that for the host Raiders.

With two outs in the ninth, Bradley singled to plate Gage Galeone with the winning run and give Ryan a 4-3 win.

Kyle Slawter earned the win on the mound for the Raiders.

Matt Wagner hit a double and a triple and lifted Conwell-Egan past visiting Archbishop Wood, 5-4.

Public. Freshman second baseman Clinton Hickson smacked a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and gave host Germantown a 12-11 win over Southern.

Hickson was 2 for 4 with three runs batted in and a run scored.

Anthony Retallick's double in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Dom Garofalo and handed GAMP a 7-6 win over visiting Northeast.

Chris Woods hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning and boosted Masterman past visiting Frankford, 5-4.

Boys' Lacrosse

Norristown won its first lacrosse game of the season in dramatic fashion.

Sean Calhoun picked up his fifth goal of the game at the 3-minute, 30-second mark of overtime and gave the Eagles a 10-9 win over visiting Upper Moreland in a Suburban One League game.

Calhoun also assisted on three other goals.

Ryan Ambler and Brian Gallagher collected two goals and an assist each and sparked Abington to an 8-6 win over host Council Rock North.

Public. Northeast got two goals each from John Lebig, Ryan London, Parth Patel and Mike Sordiva and beat Audenried, 12-3, at Gratz.

Catholic. Rob Watts struck for four goals and helped St. Joseph's Prep beat visiting Monsignor Bonner, 17-2.

Tri-County. Will Alma and Wren Scott each scored twice to lead Kimberton Waldorf past visiting Woodlynde, 6-3.

Girls' Soccer

Tiana Gaines scored on a penalty kick with 10 minutes remaining in the second half to give Dobbins a 4-3 Public League win at Frankford, clinching a playoff spot.

Girls' Lacrosse

Emma Dillon scored eight goals for host Jenkintown in a 16-9 Bicentennial League win over Delco Christian.
