Wed. S.J. girls’ roundup: Sacred Heart wins on no-hitter

Rosie LaGrotta pitched a no-hitter, Rachel Gavigan belted a two-run homer, and host Sacred Heart needed just five innings to dispatch Bridgeton, 12-0, Wednesday in Cape-Atlantic League softball.

LaGrotta, a freshman righthander, struck out seven and walked two. Gavigan finished with two hits and three RBIs.

In other Cape-Atlantic action:

Host Hammonton pushed across single runs in the ninth and 10th innings to outlast Absegami, 9-8.

Taylor Rizotte, Lauren Berger, and Morgan Divello teamed for eight hits, four runs, three RBIs, and two stolen bases for the Blue Devils. Jocilyn Rudisill (4 for 5, four runs, three RBIs) and Kelly Lupton each had a homer for Absegami.

Emily Corson's double brought home two base runners in a three-run second inning, and Cassidy Gorgo made the lead stand up by tossing a two-hitter in Millville's 3-1 victory at Atlantic City.

Chelsea Bright batted 4 for 4, drew three walks, scored three times, and drove in four runs as Middle Township cruised, 21-7, at Ocean City.

Tri-County. One day after suffering its first loss of the season, host Kingsway rebounded in a big way, banging out a dozen hits en route to a 12-1 triumph over Cumberland.

Kelsey Dominik and Katie Dickson combined with winning pitcher Dominique Ficara to produce seven hits, six RBIs, and four runs scored.

Olympic. Nicole Escobar batted 4 for 4, including a solo home run in the sixth inning that enabled Cherry Hill East to hold off host Lenape, 6-4, in a game that featured 27 hits.

Winning pitcher Jackie Pezzato tossed a four-hitter while contributing a pair of doubles and one RBI, as host Shawnee nipped Paul VI, 2-1.

Nonleague. Laura Messina struck out 14 and didn't walk a batter in tossing a two-hit shutout, and Justine Reed doubled, drove in a run and scored once in Camden Catholic's 5-0 victory over visiting Oakcrest.

Kylie McGoldrick batted 2 for 3, stole two bases and scored twice to help host Sterling edge Deptford, 3-1.

Samantha Gonzalez doubled twice in going 3 for 4 with six RBIs, powering host Pennsauken past Camden, 17-5.

Golf

Lexi Klein shot a 3-over-par 39 to finish fourth overall and lead Moorestown to the team title in the South Jersey Girls Golf Open at Sakima Country Club.

Lacrosse

Caitlin Chase (six goals, four assists) and Jenna Graham (six goals) keyed a 15-goal, second-half explosion that lifted host Holy Cross over New Egypt, 19-16, in a Burlington County League match.

Dorothy Westlake added a hat trick for the Lancers, who trailed 7-4 at halftime. Cortney Natalicchio's five goals paced the Warriors.

Dana Pennock scored six times, Chloe Mendoza contributed three goals and three assists, and goalie Sam Washington stopped 11 shots in Northern Burlington's 16-15 come-from-behind win at Cinnaminson.

Ally Stathius had a hat trick while Rachel Irons recorded two goals and three assists to pace Delran's balanced attack in a 10-9 win at Maple Shade.
