Holy Cross’ Swain decides on Stillman

The Holy Cross senior wide receiver-defensive back was still sorting out his college options when a family connection helped him land a partial scholarship at Division II Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

On March 1, former NFL player Dedrick Dodge, owner of two Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos, was named defensive coordinator at Stillman.

One of his first priorities was recruiting Swain, who happens to be a cousin.

"He was a big reason I have decided to attend there," said Swain, who made his commitment earlier this week and will visit the campus in the next few weeks. "He said he will stay on me because he wants me to be the best possible player."

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Swain was recruited to be a safety.

Last season, he had 19 receptions for 418 yards (22 yards average) and five touchdowns. Swain was also a first-team all-West Jersey Football League Patriot Division choice on defense.

"Recruiting was a long process, and I am glad that it's over," Swain said. "I was told that if I come in great shape that there will be a chance to contribute right away, and that is what I'm looking to do."
