Deutsch has big plans at ODU

Eastern's Rob Deutsch has big plans for his wrestling future, and he hopes to fulfill them at Old Dominion University.

Eastern's Rob Deutsch has big plans for his wrestling future, and he hopes to fulfill them at Old Dominion University.

Deutsch, a senior, dreams about becoming a national champion.

"I chose Old Dominion because it's a nice area and the head coach, Steve Martin, really wants to make me a national champion," said Deutsch, who made an oral commitment in September and signed in November. "They also have a great criminal justice program, plus having a [former] teammate there" is a plus.

Eric Dunnet, who graduated from Eastern two years ago, wrestles for Old Dominion and speaks with Deutsch occasionally.

Deutsch, a 119-pounder, has the best record on Eastern's team, 32-0. Last season, he placed third in the state at 119 after winning his third district and region crowns. He won a state title at 112 as a sophomore. His career record is 145-12.
