Austin O'Brien, an Inquirer first-team all-South Jersey placekicker from Shawnee, has made an oral commitment to attend Lafayette. O'Brien chose Lafayette over Temple.
"Lafayette has a good pre-med program and I hope to become a chiropractor, and it offers a very competitive brand of football," O'Brien said.
O'Brien said he likely would be the team's kickoff man and punter as a freshman and backup field-goal kicker.
A number of other South Jersey players have made football commitments, with the NCAA letter-of-intent signing date Wednesday.
Three local products will be attending Sacred Heart in Connecticut: Bishop Eustace running back Sean Bell and offensive lineman Frank McConnell, and Holy Spirit's Tim Goodwin, who was recruited as an H-back.
In addition, Cherokee coach P.J. Mehigan says three of his players have made football commitments. All-South Jersey defensive lineman Nick Foster will attend Marist, all-South Jersey defensive back Mike Zeuli is headed to Princeton, and wide receiver Drake Rodgers will attend Bucknell.
Also, Cherry Hill East running back/defensive back Isaiah Campbell has committed to Lehigh.
