Thurs. S.J. boys’ roundup: Lenape tops Malvern

Brad Robertson led Lenape's balanced attack and the Indians converted 28 of 38 foul shots while knocking off Malvern Prep, 67-61, on Thursday in the Lenape Board 34 Showcase basketball tournament.

Malvern (9-3), one of the top teams in the Philadelphia Inter-Ac League, got a game-high 25 points from Brendan Kilpatrick, but Lenape (5-0) responded with Robertson's 16 points, backed by Will Kelly's 12 and Sean Kelly's 11.

Robertson was 7 for 7 at the foul line and Sean Kelly was a perfect 8 for 8.

Also at Lenape, Sterling claimed a 49-41 win with a defense that held the Quakers without a player in double figures, and an offense led by Vince Rivera's 18 points and Dante Smith's 12.

Tournament of Peace. One night after breaking the Pitman school record for career assists, Luke Dickson made 9 of 12 shots from the field and poured in 26 points as the host Panthers beat Washington Township, 64-51, in the title game.

Dickson, who has 515 career assists, joined teammate Dylan Colgate (18 points, 10 rebounds) as tournament co-MVPs.

Virginia Whitaker Tournament. Senior point guard Derrick Ray, who had two points through three quarters, scored eight fourth-quarter points and secured Cherry Hill West's 47-43 win over Williamstown at Cherry Hill East.

Ray hit a three-pointer with two minutes left for a four-point lead and made 5 of 6 foul shots down the stretch. Terrell Williams added eight points and six rebounds.

Cherry Hill East defeated Gloucester Catholic, 44-29, as Chris Santo had 15 points and a dozen rebounds, and Dan Melleby scored all of his eight points in a 15-6 third quarter.

Boardwalk Classic. At the Wildwoods Convention Center, Archbishop Wood (Pa.) rallied from a 34-23 halftime deficit and edged Woodbury, 59-56, in a showcase game. The Herd's Aamir Petrose grabbed 14 rebounds, and Nick Lawson (13) hit four threes.

Rancocas Valley settled for third place in the George Betz Bracket after beating Chevy Chase (Md.), 60-33, at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Tariq Jett scored 14 points and dished out four assists, and Kenny Johnson led RV with 17 points, including a pair of three-pointers.

In the first round of the Atlantic Cup Bracket, Cape May Tech sailed past Hammonton, 49-32, with a 40-23 rebounding advantage. Brandon Carillo had 12 points and 16 boards, and Khali Wilson chipped in with seven rebounds and five assists.

Pennsauken will be Tech's opponent in the final after the Indians edged Philadelphia Electrical, 59-58. Frank Small's field goal with 24 seconds left was the game-winning basket, and teammate Kyle Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Jackson Liberty Tournament. West Deptford will play in the consolation game on Friday after dropping a 55-49 semifinal verdict to Wardlaw-Hartridge. Tom Jakubowski gave the Eagles 14 points and four boards.

Cherokee won twice in a double-dual meet at Bishop Eustace, knocking off the host Crusaders, 55-14, and adding a 52-19 win over Triton. The Chiefs' Ben Fanjoy outlasted Eustace's Tyler Orfe, 3-2, in a battle of top 160-pounders.

In other nonleague action, Absegami suffered a 51-21 loss at perennial state power Phillipsburg. The Braves got pins by Alex Gong at 171 and Steve Schwartz at 285.
