Fri. Pa. boys' roundup: Prep passes Ryan

The logjam at the top of the Catholic League soccer standings got a little tighter Friday.

Just one game separates the top four teams in the league and one of those teams leaped over another into first place.

St. Joseph's Prep got two goals from T.J. Morgan and beat Archbishop Ryan, 4-1, to move past the Raiders into first place.

The Hawks (13-2-2, 10-1-1) also got goals from Tom Cugliotta and Pat Kardish at the United German Hungarian Club in Oakford. Ryan (13-4, 10-2) got a goal from Matt Martinez.

Father Judge (13-4, 10-2) raced to a 3-0 lead in the first half and handled Lansdale Catholic, 4-1, at Lighthouse Field.

Eric Goldbloom paced the Crusaders with two goals while James Breuning and Kevin Elmer added a goal each. Colin Sulpizio got the win in goal with a four-save effort.

Steve Braunlinger struck for two goals and paced Cardinal O'Hara to a 5-0 win over host West Catholic.

Public. Jordan Jeune scored twice and Manny Castellanos pitched a shutout during the first half to lead Germantown past host Edison, 3-2.

Inter-Ac. Sam Lane scored in the second half and gave Chestnut Hill Academy a 2-1 win over host Episcopal Academy.

Lane gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead. Spencer Ivey scored for the Churchmen who got six saves from Hayden Walling.

Michael Goldman from the top of the box 20 minutes into the game and Penn Charter held on to beat visiting Malvern Prep, 1-0.

Matt Sullivan assisted on the goal and Michael Baron stopped nine shots to earn the shutout in goal for the Quakers.

Central. Alexi Topolidis scored 22 minutes into the game and boosted Marple Newtown to a 1-0 win over host Upper Darby.

Kenny Lassiter picked up a pair of goals and led Lower Merion to a 3-1 win over host Garnet Valley.

Sasha Safavi also scored for the Aces who got two saves from Emmett McConnell. Mike Cross scored a goal and Kevin Stripling turned aside five shots for the Jaguars.

Alex Murphy and Jerry Oetzel scored in the first half and helped Strath Haven beat visiting Penncrest, 3-1.

Preston Dennis scored an insurance goal after Ricky Schultz cut the Panthers' lead in half early in the second half.

Chris Keenan earned the win in goal after turning aside six shots.

Suburban One National. Evan Caterson, Jason Hyman and Kyle McDonald scored goals and helped Pennsbury beat host Truman, 4-0.

Ches-Mont. Jimmy McLaughlin scored twice in the second half and boosted Great Valley to a 2-1 win over visiting Downingtown East.

Pioneer Athletic. Boyertown used goals by Chris Chung, Chad Craig, T.C. Kauffman and Jeff Lauchner to beat host Phoenixville, 4-1.

Friends Schools. Gabe Haug and Richie Shulz assisted on each other's goals and sparked George School to a 2-0 win over host Westtown.

Nick Carnes earned the shutout in goal for the Cougars with six saves.

Sam Marks scored twice and Chase Cella earned his first varsity goal as Shipley beat host Friends Select, 5-0.

Cella's goal came from a direct kick that bent into a corner of the goal. Pablo Sisniega stopped four shots to record the shutout for the Gators.

Tri-County. Nicolas Bartke and Wren Scott scored within 30 seconds of each other in the second half and handed Kimberton Waldorf a 2-1 win over visiting Woodlynde.

Both goals including Scott's game-winner came in the 70th minute. John Hite assisted on Bartke's goal and Scott scored from 12-yards out after going one-on-one with a Warriors' defender.

Nonleague. Mac Farber scored off a set piece by Lee Sanquist three minutes into a second overtime period and gave Central Bucks East a 2-1 win over host Abington.

Xan Pafford scored in the 68th minute and gave Academy of the New Church a 1-0 win over visiting Calvary Christian.

Tyler Boyce provided the assist on the goal and Kellen Ayers faced four shots en route to the shutout. Nick Carnes stopped 27 shots for the Cougars.

Kas Fazliu, Kevin Hennessey and Cameron Scott each chipped in with a goal and an assist and lifted Plymouth Whitemarsh to a 6-0 win over visiting Springfield (Montgomery County).
