S. Jersey Girls: Moreno lifts St. Joseph to final

Marissa Moreno made her return to the St. Joseph lineup memorable by scoring in the second overtime, lifting the second-seeded Wildcats over third-seeded Pitman, 2-1, yesterday in the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 field hockey tournament.

Moreno, a senior who had been sidelined by a concussion since Sept. 24, picked up a loose ball in front of the cage and deposited the game-winner to send St. Joseph into Monday's sectional final at top-seeded Schalick.

Jessica Harrell fed Stephanie Turner in the second half, allowing the Cougars to advance with a 1-0 win over fourth-seeded Salem.

South Jersey Group 2. After regulation and two overtimes produced a 2-2 tie, Lauren Boegly converted the deciding penalty stroke to send top-seeded West Deptford past fourth-seeded Haddonfield.

Devon Biglin put in a pass from Jessica Garrone in the first half, and second-seeded Holy Spirit held on to edge third-seeded Delsea, 1-0.

South Jersey Group 3. Aubrey Coleman scored twice and set up one goal, and Emily Poole added a goal and an assist to power second-seeded Kingsway over fourth-seeded Lacey Township, 4-0.

Central Jersey Group 1. Courtney Natalicchio had a hat trick and Gianna Andreula contributed a goal and two assists, fueling No. 3-seed New Egypt's 4-2 come-from-behind win at No. 2-seed Florence. Lexi Smith and Kristen Tully scored in the first half for the Flashes.

Marissa DePativo's second-half goal helped No. 4-seed Holy Cross hand No. 1-seed Gloucester its first loss, 1-0.

Central Jersey Group 2. Top-seeded Bishop Eustace left nothing to chance, rolling out to a 3-0 first-half lead in defeating fourth-seeded Cinnaminson, 4-1.

Allie Canal, Elise DiDonato, Rachel Duffy and Moira Penza each had a goal for the Crusaders, who peppered Pirates goalie Maggie Velinka with 23 shots.

Samantha Gregg and Caitlin Hawco scored for No. 3- seed Collingswood, but the Panthers were overwhelmed by No. 2-seed Rumson-Fair Haven, 6-2.

Bishop Eustace will host Monday's title match at 2 p.m.

Central Jersey Group 3. Second-seeded Moorestown dominated from the outset, gaining an 18-0 advantage in penalty corners while outshooting sixth-seeded Northern Burlington, 20-1, en route to a 3-0 semifinal victory.

Sarah Weber, Nikki Shapiro and Jenna Dougherty scored in support of Quakers netminder Kristin LaRosa, who was relatively untested in securing her eighth shutout of the season.

Central Jersey Group 4. Junior Brynn Gitt knocked in a pass from Abby Wood for her 21st goal this season, giving second-seeded Rancocas Valley the lead with 16 minutes, 31 seconds to go in the first half, but the Red Devils never dented the cage again in falling, 4-1, to third-seeded Freehold Township.

Tiffany Murphy recorded a natural hat trick for the visiting Patriots, who await the winner of today's semifinal between fourth-seeded Lenape and top-seeded Steinert.
