Carroll’s Irving picks Boston U.
Archbishop Carroll senior D.J. Irving gave an oral commitment to play basketball at Boston University.
The 5-foot-10 point guard chose the Terriers over Rider University Saturday. Irving is scheduled to sign a binding national letter of intent on Nov. 16.
"I just felt more comfortable with the coaches at Boston," Irving said of his decision. "And I got the feeling my parents felt more comfortable."
A reigning all-Catholic League Blue Division selection, Irving averaged 19.7 points, 3.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 steals in Carroll's playoff run to last season's Class AAA state title.
The 17-year-old is the sixth Southeastern Pennsylvania senior to commit to Boston University this season.
North Catholic's Mike Terry, Roman Catholic's Anthony Mayo and Friends' Central teammates Dominic Morris, Travis Robinson and H.J. Gaskins are the others.
Pat Chambers, who was Villanova's former associate head coach, is Boston University's first-year head coach.
