19 AAAA football teams playing for 16 slots

After seven weeks of play, 12 teams appear to be locks to reach the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA football playoffs.

Unless disaster strikes for their teams, Pennsbury, North Penn, Ridley, Neshaminy, Garnet Valley, Downingtown West, Downingtown East, Avon Grove, Norristown, Council Rock North, Council Rock South, and Abington should be playing football when playoff time rolls around next month.

The rest of the 16-seed playoff picture is less clear. As it stands, Quakertown, Conestoga, Perkiomen Valley and Souderton round out the top 16. But those teams may not stay like that for long. Penncrest, Unionville and Upper Dublin could make some noise in the final four weeks.

It will be a difficult road, however. Unionville faces the always dangerous Downingtown East in the final week of the season.

Souderton, which is holding the 16th spot, squares off against The Inquirer's No. 1-ranked team, North Penn, on Friday in addition to playing Quakertown and Upper Dublin down the stretch.

Look for Penncrest-Conestoga and Upper Dublin- Souderton to be key matchups in the final weeks. The teams that win out may have the best shot at making the playoffs.

Unlike the situation with Class AAAA, the District 1 playoffs for Class AAA are fairly clear. Look for West Chester Henderson and Strath Haven to battle it out for the final spot in the eight-seed playoffs.

As it stands, Henderson occupies that coveted final spot, and it will be difficult for Strath Haven to overtake the Warriors.

Both teams have difficult schedules down the stretch, but if Strath Haven can beat Class AAAA Penncrest in Week 10, a move up might be in order.

Complete point rankings are located in Scoreboard.
