Ursuline Academy

had the blue-chip prospect, but

Archbishop Carroll

got the blue-chip win yesterday in its own basketball classic, appropriately named the Blue Chip Saturday Showdown.

The host team stunned Ursuline Academy (Del.), 62-58, in double overtime and, in the process, handed the nation's consensus No. 1 player, Elena DelleDonne, a rare defeat.

It was through no fault of DelleDonne, though, who dropped in 30 points on the afternoon.

Carroll had to mount an incredible comeback against a team ranked No. 21 in the nation in the latest poll, trailing by 10 with 1 minute, 19 seconds left in regulation.

The Patriots (12-5) had a chance to win the game in regulation when Deanna Kelly's steal and layup gave them a 51-49 lead with just two seconds left.

DelleDonne, a 6-foot-5 guard who was a first-team Parade All-American last year, was then fouled, which probably wasn't particularly smart since she holds the national record for consecutive free throws (80) set during her sophomore season. She calmly dropped in two to send the game into overtime.

The Patriots outscored the Raiders, 7-3, in the second overtime with the go-ahead basket coming from Lauren Wells.

Kelly and Kerry Shields each scored 14 points to lead Carroll.

In other Super Saturday games:

Cardinal O'Hara topped Bishop McNamara (Md.), 54-35, as Alicia Manning scored nine of her 15 points in the second quarter.

Archbishop Wood got 15 points from Alyssa Parsons and 13 more from Taylor Peltzer in a 52-39 win over Woodrow Wilson (N.J.).

Pioneer Athletic. Jullian Taylor scored 14 points to lead Owen J. Roberts to a 62-34 win over visiting Boyertown. Taylor paced a group of three Wildcats who reached double figures as Viola Augugliaro added 12 and Gayle Exley 11. Hannah Halteman also made a huge contribution with seven points and 10 rebounds.

Catholic Academies. All 13 players who suited up scored for Mount St. Joseph as head coach John Miller substituted liberally in a 68-23 win at Sacred Heart. Laura Johnson dropped in 14 points to lead the Magic (17-2 overall, 10-1 league).

Friends Schools. Alex Lennon, a 6-2 sophomore, scored 19 points, added 13 rebounds and five blocked shots for host Shipley in a 58-30 win over Germantown Friends.

Nonleague. Eryn Schultz knocked down five three-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead Pottsgrove to an impressive road win, 47-40, at perennial state Class AAA powerhouse Allentown Central Catholic. Schultz made three shots from beyond the arc in the first half as the Falcons (15-6) jumped out to a 23-19 lead. Becky Guman's 13 points led the Vikings.

Quakertown earned another prestigious win, beating host Reading, 45-44, as Vanessa Landis stole the inbounds pass on the game's final play. Sam Lynam led the Panthers (13-6) with 17 points, including two free throws with 1.3 seconds left for the final points.
