Delran rolls to 3 wins in Welch Duals

Delran's unbeaten season steamrolled through the Jack Welch Duals in dominating fashion yesterday. The Bears improved to 21-0 with three wins in the tournament, including a 42-33 triumph over Schalick in the final at Moorestown.

In the premier bout of the entire tournament, Delran's Jake Sweezy scored a 6-0 decision over previously unbeaten Aaron Wilcox of Schalick in the 135-pound match. Sweezy, who improved to 22-2, turned Wilcox onto his back in the first period and carried the momentum through the rest of the match.

Sweezy, Andre Carthan (130), Jim Weideman (140) and Anthony Saulle (145) each went 3-0 for Delran.

Williamstown finished fourth and host Moorestown placed fifth in the team standings.

Olympic. Chris Howley (Hwt.) and Steve Forsythe (189) each went 3-0 with three pins as Triton set a school record for wins in a season after defeating Paul VI, 57-12; host Washington Township, 46-22; and Camden, 66-15. The Mustangs improved to 15-7, eclipsing the win mark of 14 set in 2000. Eric Beck (112) also went 3-0 while Chris Vicente (145) and Anthony Williams (152) each went 2-0 for Triton.

Heavyweight Zach Schewe pinned all three of his opponents as Seneca went 2-1 in its home quad-meet. The Golden Eagles lost a 40-30 decision to Eastern before beating Cherry Hill West, 57-18, and Buena, 48-18.

Eric Levenseller (152), Bobby Carroll (160) and Tim Connor (171) also went 3-0 for Seneca.

Damion Scott (140) won a 3-2 decision and Preston Keifer (145) added a fall in the final two bouts as Eastern nipped Seneca.

Byran Branch's second-period pin in the final bout at 119 lifted Timber Creek to a 32-28 victory over Cherokee in a tri-meet at Pennsauken. The Chargers won five of the final seven bouts, including falls by Jihad Johnson (171) and Joe Capizzi (189).

Against Pennsauken, Cherokee's Ken Wilkerson flattened his opponent in the first period for his 100th career victory. The Chiefs beat the Indians, 43-25.

Lenape registered a 51-24 win over host Winslow Township. Bobby Jolly (125), Brad Sanders (130), Drew Williams (135) and Greg Van Sciver (140) delivered consecutive pins for Lenape.

Tri-County. Scott Wear became Clayton's all-time career win leader (89) as he went 3-0 with two pins during the Clippers' victories over Lindenwold, 60-9; Glassboro, 53-17, and host Overbrook, 38-36. Wear broke the old mark (87) set by Bobby Tunstall last season.

Burlington County. Tony Franco (215) and Eriq Morris (119) each had three pins as Burlington Township rattled off wins over host Bordentown, 45-27; Pemberton, 53-12, and Burlington City, 52-20.

A.J. Derita (171) and Terrance Scotton (112) each recorded three wins, including two by fall, as the Falcons raised their record to 13-4.

Jerome Williams (Hwt.) had two pins and a technical fall as Holy Cross swept its home quad-meet over Trenton Catholic, 64-3; Willingboro, 38-36, and Ocean City, 40-35.

Tim Cocozza (130) also went 3-0 and clinched both wins against Willingboro and Ocean City with a 7-2 decision and a 14-5 major decision, respectively.

Colonial. Ken Chambers (119), Vince Simone (152), Mark DiLiberto (189) and Kyle Falzone (Hwt.) produced pins as Collingswood remained unbeaten in the conference with a 44-18 victory over Sterling.

Cape-Atlantic. With a quad-meet sweep against Middle Township, 34-21; Bishop Eustace, 55-15 and Mainland, 51-19, Hammonton reached the 20-win plateau. Rocco Pagano (112) went 3-0 with three pins for the Blue Devils.

Mainland split its final two meets, beating Bishop Eustace, 50-30, and falling to Middle Township, 44-29. Doug Ewing (125) and Anthony Angelo (152) each went 3-0 for the Mustangs.

Anthony Luma (130) ran his unbeaten record to 19-0 with two first-period pins as host Egg Harbor Township knocked off Sterling, 44-24, and Vineland, 39-30. Shane Wenzel (160) and Eddy Paguada (119) also went 2-0 with two pins for the Eagles.
