It used to be a Cold War. Some of the top football programs in South Jersey would regard each other across a kind of demilitarized zone - measuring each other by comparative scores, common opponents and eye tests without any actual engagement.

The proposal to expand Pennsylvania high school football from four to six classifications by 2016 is still in play. It was discussed again by the PIAA board of directors last month and tabled until the strategic planning and football steering committees meet on Sept. 16.
