Playing on his home course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, Gregor Orlando scored a hole-in-one on his final hole Tuesday to win medalist honors in the qualifier for next month's U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.

Orlando, 25, hit an 8-iron on the 169-yard 10th hole at Cricket to record the ace, allowing him to finish with a 4-under-par 66. Because of the configuration at the Flourtown course, the 131 players competing in the qualifier teed off both the first and 11th tees.

"The pin was all the way up front so we actually couldn't see it go in," Orlando said. "I had no idea [it went in]. "It was pretty neat."

Orlando was even par for his round with four holes to play but birdied the seventh and ninth holes before his walkoff 1 at No. 10.

A former Cricket Club player, Andy Latkowski, who now lives in San Francisco, was second in the competition with a 67. A total of seven berths in the U.S. Mid-Amateur, which begins Sept. 10 at Stonewall in Elverson, Chester County, were at stake.

Also qualifying were Matthew Finger of Woolwich Township, N.J. and Chris Cassetta of Roanoke, Va., with 69; Brian Payne of Flossmor, Ill., with 70, and Chris Ault of Yardley and John Brennan of Audubon with 71. Finger is from DuPont Country Club, Ault plays out of Yardley Country Club and Brennan is a Cricket Club member.

Pennsylvania Open

Robert Rohanna of Waynesburg, who has played eight events this year on the PGA Tour Latino America, fired a 7-under-par 65 to vault into the lead after two rounds of the 100th Pennsylvania Open at The Club at Nevillewood in the western part of the state.

Rohanna, a former Penn State player who won this championship in 2010 at Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern, birdied four of his last five holes to shoot the lowest round of the tournament and stand at 8-under 136 after 36 holes.

Corey McAlarney, assistant pro at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting, shot a 68 to move into second place at 137. Devin Gee, who will become director of golf at Oakmont Country Club in the fall, and amateur Luke Miller of Venetia, Pa., each shot a 70 and were tied for third at 138. First-round leader Cole Willcox of Malvern was at 140 after a 73.

The field was cut to 42 players who will compete Wednesday in the final round of the event.
