Stu Ingraham of M-Golf in Newtown Square shot a 3-under-par 67 Monday to win the William Hyndman III Memorial Classic at Huntingdon Valley Country Club for the third time.

Stu Ingraham of M-Golf in Newtown Square shot a 3-under-par 67 Monday to win the William Hyndman III Memorial Classic at Huntingdon Valley Country Club for the third time.

Ingraham, 56, an eight-time player of the year in the Philadelphia Section PGA, carded four birdies against a single bogey on the 6,830-yard Toomey and Flynn nines at Huntingdon Valley.

Ingraham said he conducted a 31/2-hour junior golf camp at M-Golf before heading to the course and wasn't sure how ready he would be.

"I didn't know what to expect because I hadn't played in eight days," he said. "But I played a solid round of golf. After a bogey at No. 3, I got a few birdies and ran it out and played great."

Dave Quinn of Links tied for second place with Spring Ford's Rich Steinmetz at 69. Quinn was one of three players who competed in the morning at the New Jersey State Open in Kenilworth, N.J., then headed south into Montgomery County to make the final tee time at the Hyndman.

The tournament honors Hyndman, a longtime Huntingdon Valley member who was one of the nation's top amateur players, winning two U.S. Senior Amateur Championships and participating on five U.S. Walker Cup teams. He died in 2001.

At the New Jersey State Open, Michael Brown, an amateur representing Pennsauken Country Club, fired a 3-under-par 68 to grab a share of third place after the first round at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth.

Among South Jersey players in the top 25 were Bin Kwon of Little Mill and Alexander Hicks of Stone Harbor at 70 and John Appleget of Wildwood and Greg Farrow of Deerwood at 71. Tyler Hill of Upper Montclair held the lead after a 7-under 64.

Women's Match Play

Alessandra Liu of Commonwealth National, the Colonial Athletic Association's player of the year this season while competing for William & Mary, finished as medalist in qualifying for the 119th Philadelphia Women's Match Play Championship, firing a 73 at the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale.
