Janzen, Stiles are tied for lead in Ill.
SILVIS, Ill. - Lee Janzen stirred some memories and was tied with Darron Stiles for the lead after firing a 7-under-par 64 in the first round of the John Deere Classic yesterday.
Janzen has not won on the PGA Tour since he captured his second U.S. Open in 1998, yet he is in position after an impressive start at TPC Deere Run. The 44-year-old was 8-under after birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.
European Tour
LUSS, Scotland - Martin Laird finally came home and put on quite a show in the Scottish Open, twice chipping in for birdie on his way to a 6-under 65 that left him 1 shot behind Richard Green after the first round at Loch Lomond.
Laird was born in Glasgow but had not played in his native country as a pro.
He was recruited to play at Colorado State, then went straight to qualifying school and earned a Nationwide Tour card. He advanced to the PGA Tour last year.
His family saw Laird play for the first time as a pro. He was tied with Paul McGinley, Graeme Storm and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.
