Flyers' Jake Voracek impressed with rookie Oskar Lindblom

The Flyers' top line in one of their exhibition games Wednesday might have Claude Giroux centering Oskar Lindblom and Jake Voracek. Is it a sign of things to come?

If Monday was an indication, the Flyers will have Claude Giroux centering Jake Voracek and rookie hotshot Oskar Lindblom when they face the New York Islanders in a split-squad exhibition game Wednesday at Allentown's PPL Center.

That line was together at camp Monday in Voorhees.

"If we're going to play together, don't expect us to score five goals in a period," Voracek said. "But we want to be better every single time we go on the ice and get better as a unit and get better as a team."

Lindblom, who turned 21 last month, had six shots — tied with Shayne Gostisbehere for most in the game — in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the host New York Islanders.

"He's a smart player who knows where he has to be to put the puck in the net," Voracek said. "He was one of the best forwards in the Swedish League last year. I would say that's pretty impressive at his age."

Camp Hakstol

At camp Monday, the Flyers were divided into two groups — the morning session was composed of players battling for roster spots; the second session had players who figure to play in juniors or with the Phantoms at the start of the season. Mike Vecchione and Phil Myers were in the second group.

"They tell you a little bit, but I don't think I'd read everything into it," coach Dave Hakstol said of the two groups. "I think you'll probably see a little bit of an adjustment to the groups [Tuesday]."

On Wednesday, the Flyers will have split-squad games against the Islanders at the PPL Center and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Hakstol will coach in Allentown, and assistants Gord Murphy and Ian Laperriere will direct the team in Brooklyn.

Breakaways

Forward Anthony Salinitri was returned to his junior team, Sarnia of the Ontario Hockey League, and Frank Hora will report to the AHL's Phantoms when they open camp Thursday. That leaves the Flyers with 53 healthy players in camp. … Wayne Simmonds had a maintenance day and did not practice Monday. Taylor Leier replaced Simmonds at right wing and was on a line with Nolan Patrick and Jordan Weal. … Hakstol is starting to incorporate the details of his system into practices. "That's going to be a work in progress. There's not a lot of time when you look at the number of practices and our opener in San Jose" on Oct. 4, he said. "So every day we have to take full advantage of both practice time and the exhibition-game time … in terms of decision-making so we can play a fast game."
