WHERE: Gila River Arena.
BROADCAST & STREAMING: NBCSP+, NBCSports.com/live, 93.3 FM
KEY PLAYERS: For the Flyers, this is a chance at payback as they face the NHL’s worst team. The Coyotes scored a 4-3 overtime win Oct. 30 over the host Flyers for their first win of the season. They had been 0-10-1.
How bad have the Coyotes been this season?
They have scored the second-fewest amount of goals in the NHL and allowed the second-most goals. And they have a league-worst minus-63 goal differential.
Arizona is coming off a 4-3 overtime win Thursday in Minnesota. Former Flyer Nick Cousins scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season to spark the Coyotes.
Rookie Clayton Keller (15 goals), Brendan Perlini (14), and Christian Fischer (13) are the Coyotes’ leading scorers. Fischer is day to day with an undisclosed lower-body injury.
Defenseman Luke Schenn, another ex-Flyer, leads Arizona with 160 hits
The Flyers, winners of two straight, hold the Eastern Conference’s top wild-card spot (barely) and are one-point behind third-place New Jersey in the Metropolitan Division.
The Flyers have eight double-figure goal scorers — four more than Arizona — and have been paced by Sean Couturier (27) and Wayne Simmonds (18). Couturier had a pair of goals in the Flyers’ early-season loss to the Coyotes.
Jake Voracek leads the NHL with 52 assists, five more than Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau, the pride of South Jersey.
THINGS TO KNOW: Travis Konecny has 18 points in 19 games since being put on the top line…..Arizona’s Zac Rinaldo, a former Flyer, has three goals, a minus-10 rating, and 37 penalty minutes (second on the team) in 37 games…..Both teams have been dreadful in shootouts — the Flyers are 0-4, the Coyotes are 1-4. In five-on-five play, the Flyers have outscored their opponents, 94-85, while Arizona has been outscored, 125-81….Arizona’s Oliver Ekman-Larrson has 64 goals since 2014-15, the second-highest total for an NHL defenseman in that span.
HEAD TO HEAD: The Flyers lead the overall series, 45-29-2-2. The Flyers have lost their last three games in Arizona.
