TeamTennis returns to Philadelphia
Flyers fans finally have more to do during the offseason than wonder about how the team will screw up, or pointing out how the team has screwed up.
The Philadelphia Freedoms, a member of the Mylan World TeamTennis league, will be playing the defending champion Washington Kastles at the Villanova Pavilion on July 23 at 7 p.m., and they are inviting the Flyers faithful for support.
“Flyers fans are some of the most passionate fans in all of sports,” said Philadelphia Freedoms Senior Vice President and General Manager Barbara Perry. “We are excited to have the enthusiasm of Flyers fans inside the Pavilion to cheer on the Freedoms and experience tennis at its highest level.”
The Freedoms are 1-1 after a 20-19 super-tiebreaker loss Tuesday night to the San Diego Aviators.
Starting at 5:30 p.m., fans will have access to former player Todd Fedoruk, as well as an auction to win tennis equipment signed by current Flyers like Steve Mason or Kimmo Timonen.
Entering their 15th season of Mylan WTT play, the 2014 Philadelphia Freedoms (owned by Billie Jean King) return to the Pavilion at Villanova University (800 Lancaster Avenue, Villanova, PA) for seven home matches this July. The 2014 home schedule will be highlighted by Grand Slam Champion marquee players Victoria Azarenka playing for the Freedoms (July 15) and visiting marquee players Venus Williams (Washington Kastles – July 17), and Andy Roddick (Austin Aces – July 21) each playing one match in Philadelphia.
