UPDATE [3:30 p.m.]: The Flyers announced that tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes will be postponed due to inclement weather. No new date has been set.

From earlier: The snow is falling - and falling so fast and so furiously that it is falling sideways.

In Canada, they call this a Tuesday.

Here in Philadelphia, where snow is handled shakier than a nuclear football, tonight’s sporting events are in question.

As of 12:30 p.m., tonight’s Flyers game against the Carolina Hurricanes at the Wells Fargo Center will go on as scheduled. The puck drops at 7 o’clock.

The NHL has a policy in place in case of inclement weather that when both teams are in town, along with the officials, the game will be played. The Hurricanes actually made it to Philadelphia before the Flyers on Monday night, coming back from their shootout loss on Long Island.

There are a few exceptions to the rule, however. Carolina knows of that first-hand. Their Jan. 7 game in Buffalo was postponed hours before puck drop because it was too dangerous for both teams to venture to First Niagara Center. Buffalo had “White Out” conditions as nearly three feet of snow was dumped on the city that day.

Carolina’s game against the Sabres will be replayed on Feb. 25, the day before the Olympic Break was scheduled to end. There was no other place on the schedule to fit in the game, since teams are barred from playing three games in three days.

Now, the Hurricanes sit in their hotel, hoping and praying they won’t have to squeeze in another rescheduled game after already going through the trouble of traveling to another town.

The Flyers did not hold a morning skate on Tuesday. They are 6-3-0 in the second game of back-to-back sets this season.

If you're going to the game, please be careful. If not, you won't be the only one. Enjoy the game from the comforts of your couch.
