Flyers' Simmonds shows no concerns over Glass' comments

The Flyers begin what could be a season-defining road trip on Sunday at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers and emotions could be boiling.

One can remember last Saturday when the Rangers won a 3-2 shootout victory over the Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center, plenty of bad blood existed.

Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds was given a match penalty for throwing a punch with his glove on at Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh. During the exchange, Simmonds hit McDonagh's chin with his elbow, which caused a concussion.

Even though Simmonds received an automatic ejection for a match penalty, he wasn't suspended.

This week Rangers forward Tanner Glass had some strong words for Simmonds when talking about Sunday's game.

Via the New York Post, here is what Glass had to say about Simmonds

"You have to think team first, so you're not taking a penalty," Glass said. "You're not trying to hurt your team in anyway. You just have to let [Simmonds] know that that's not going to be tolerated. [McDonagh's] our captain, he's our best player, [Simmonds] can't do that. He'll know. He'll know."

Simmonds was much less expansive when asked about Glass's remarks following Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the visiting New Jersey Devils.

"I'm laughing," Simmonds said. "I am going to play a hockey game."

As for playing the Rangers, the Flyers understand that this game won't feel like a basic regular seaon matchup.

"They're big games," captain Claude Giroux said. "Obviously, playing in New York against the Rangers is always fun intense games. They've been playing pretty good so we need to make sure that we're good to go."
