Simmonds out for NHL '14 cover

The Flyers' last medium for victory this year has ended with another pitiful loss.

Wayne Simmonds seemed destined to continue the Flyers-only streak for the cover of NHL '14, following Claude Giroux's appearance last year. After knocking off Jakob Voracek and Evgeni Malkin to make it to the final eight, momentum seemed to be in Simmonds' favor.

Until the results came in about an hour ago: John Tavares of the Islanders has trampsed over the Flyers winger, stealing his rightful place in the final four.

Also defeated was former Flyer James Van Riemsdyk, who lost out to Martin Brodeur of the Devils. There is one familair face still alive, however: Sergei Bobrovsky could be on the cover of NHL '14.
