NEW YORK -- It appears that rookie Tye McGinn’s impressive run in the Flyers’ lineup may be coming to an end on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
McGinn, who netted his first NHL goal and assist on Saturday in Florida, could be swapped out for Zac Rinaldo against the Rangers.
McGinn, Jody Shelley and defenseman Kurtis Foster were the Flyers’ extras skating following the team’s pre-game practice at the Garden. As usual, coach Peter Laviolette would not discuss his lineup against New York.
According to the pre-game skate, that would mean Tom Sestito remains in the lineup.
Laviolette said he saw McGinn play “about 5 or 6 times” while with the Phantoms during the lockout, but his arrival in the Flyers’ lineup was a pleasant surprise.
Against New York last Thursday, McGinn pounded Kris Newbury in a fight in his NHL debut and rallied the Flyers to their first win of the season. He averaged 12:38 minutes per-game in his 3 appearances, collecting 2 points on 7 shots, 6 hits, 2 blocked shots, 2 takeaways and zero giveaways.
“I would agree that he’s been impressive up here,” Laviolette said. “I actually thought that his game in Tampa on Sunday was straight-forward and decent.”
With Foster out, veteran defenseman Andreas Lilja would make his season debut after starting the year with the Phantoms.

— olneyboy- Phillyteams hit the nail on the head; McGinn to Phantoms is a no brainer. That said, I do like McGinns play and wish he could stay. Zac is a liability on the ice, taking way too many penalties (some not deserved) but you do have to like his energy. If he plays a little smater, he'll be ok.— cooperhawk

- McGinn's the real deal. I would rather him in the lineup than Zac. I think he has more to contribute both ways. MCGinn can handle himself also, as we saw the other night. Wake up Lavy!— dogman5
- Rinaldo over McGinn? I know they don't have a lot of options because of the roster limit, but expect Rinaldo to rack up a minor per every two shifts and to lose a fight.— fentonhardy

And I like Sestito's physical play . I like Rinaldo but he has to figure out how to stay out of the box. But Shelly is a complete waste of roster space. I would have waived Shelly and kept McGinn in the line up. Why rush Rinaldo back when the kid more than deserves to stay in the lineup. - with Rinaldo coming off the IR List, the club is at 24 players - 1 over the 23-man NHL limit. Someone must be sent out.
McGinn can be sent to the Phantoms directly (on his ELC). To send Sestito, Shelley, Lilja, or Foster to the Phantoms, they must go through 24-hour League-wide waivers.
Something has to happen today. See if you can find out.— PhillyTeams - Shelly is the one to handle any body the Rangers have! Sestito and Rinaldo are a waste of time. McGinn would be my choice to keep in the line up.— quigly46

- NYR does not have Orr. They used to have Orr 3-4 years ago. Bickel, Rupp and Asham. 5 to 1 says that Sestito will drop them with Bickel.— Nitroglycerin
- Have to believe Sestito is getting the nod because NYR have guys like Orr, Bickel, and Rupp in their lineup. I wouldn't be surprised to see the kid alternating with Sestito going fwd depending on opponent. As for Foster, he's a little soft for a guy his size...and not just physically, but shooting the puck too. He needs some work.— philly thug
Just my *opinion*, but I think McGinn deserves more time with the Flyers. Nothing against Rinaldo, but McGinn showed grit and skill the Flyers desperately need right now.
