NHL, union to meet Monday; Bryz leaving Russia

The NHL and the players’ union will meet in New York City Monday morning, trying to hammer out a collective bargaining agreement and end the 107-day lockout.

The NHL and the players' union will meet in New York City Monday morning, trying to hammer out a collective bargaining agreement and end the 107-day lockout.

The sides met for 2 1/2 hours Sunday to  go over the NHL's latest proposal, but there was no formal negotiating.

On Monday, the union is expected to make a counter-proposal to the owners' latest offer, which contained 300 pages.

Meanwhile, Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is leaving his team in Russia, though the reason is a mystery.

"I quit CSKA because the lockout is ending," Bryzgalov was quoted as saying in a translation from Russian reporter Ruslan Salikhov.

On Twitter, Bryzgalov called his quote "complete BS. I did not make any comments like that."

The reporter then retracted the quote.
