NHL labor talks slated for Wednesday

Representatives from the NHL and the players' union will resume labor talks Wednesday in New York City.
Wednesday will be the 24th day of the owner-imposed lockout, which centers around how to divide a record $3.3 billion in revenue.
Major economic issues, however, are not on the bargaining table for Wednesday, an NHL official told USA Today.
Sadly, there seems no urgency to get a new collective-bargaining agreement in place, If there was, wouldn't both sides be meeting Monday or Tuesday?
Meanwhile, the first two weeks of the season have been canceled, and more than 100 NHL players, including eight Flyers, have taken their talents to Europe.
Tweeted Flyers star center Claude Giroux on Monday: "Off to Germany. Excited for this new experience. Heard lots of good things and can't wait to jump on the ice again. #BerlinPolarBears."
Some time next week, NHL players are expected to get escrow checks that will pay them 8.5 percent of their 2011-12 salaries. For players who made the league average last season ($2.5 million), they will get a check for about $204,000.
Sestito to England. Winger Tom Sestito, who had been hoping to win a spot with the Flyers, said he will be playing for the Sheffield Steelers in England.
Phantoms’ roster. The Adirondack Phantoms announced their roster, and it includes nine players who spent some time with the Flyers last season: Sean Couturier, Brayden Schenn, Eric Wellwood, Zac Rinaldo, Marc-Andre Bourdon, Erik Gustafsson, Harry Zolnierczyk, Brandon Manning and Ben Holmstrom.
Cal Heeter and Scott Munroe will be the Phantoms’ goalies. In a bit of a surprise, highly touted 6-foot-7 goalie Nino Hovinen, who struggled in his North American exhibition debut last week, was sent to Trenton, the Flyers’ ECHL affiliate. Blake Kessel, Tyler Hostetter, Marcel Noebels, Jason Akeson and Luke Pither were also loaned to Trenton, which starts its season Friday against visiting Greenville.
Adirondack opens Saturday against visiting Portland.
