NBC says Flyers are....what?!

Here's hoping NBC's hockey coverage this year is better than its promotional campaign.

And more trustworthy.

The Peacock Network laid an egg with a commercial it has been running to promote Saturday afternoon's season opener between the host Flyers and their arch-rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In the commercial, the excited announcer (Think Ted Knight from the old Mary Tyler Moore Show) breathlessly proclaims: "Claude Giroux and the Flyers have their sights set on revenge for last season's playoff loss to Pitt!!!"

Uh, not quite.

It was the FLYERS who jolted the Stanley Cup favorite Penguins, four games to two, in last year's opening round.

Oh, and irony of irony: The NBC Sports Group is a subsidiary of Comcast, which is the Flyers' parent company.

Go figure.

G's "C" arrives. After Thursday's practice before 15,000-plus at the WFC, Claude Giroux was given his captain's jersey and he put it on while in the TV booth.

Laughton staying. Not only is 18-year-old rookie Scott Laughton going to be on the Flyers' opening-day roster, but it appears he will center the third line. He has been centering LW Wayne Simmonds and RW Matt Read _ players who combined for 52 goals last season.
