McGinn looks like keeper
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
WINNIPEG _ The Flyers have uncovered a little-heralded player who looks like a keeper.
Left winger Tye McGinn continued his impressive play Tuesday as he scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the Flyers' 3-2 victory in Winnipeg.
When Scott Hartnell returns from a broken foot in a couple weeks, there's no way the Flyers should send McGinn back to the AHL Phantoms.
The kid belongs in the NHL.
McGinn, a 6-foot-2, 205-pounder who was a fourth-round draft pick in 2010, has the size of former Flyer James van Riemsdyk. He can't match van Riemsdyk’s speed, but he plays a more physical game. He's adept at winning board battles, and he drops the gloves when need be. (See his winning bout against Mark Stuart on Tuesday.)
“I just try to do my best out there,” McGinn said. “Take every game like it’s my last and work hard out there. It’s the NHL, so you can’t get too comfortable at any time. You’ve just got to keep working hard and take each shift like it’s your last.”
In the win over the Jets, the newly formed trio of Brayden Schenn (goal), Jake Voracek (two assists) and McGinn (goal) was the Flyers’ best line.
By far.
They were a combined plus-5.
“We have a little chemistry going and know where we’re going to be in the offensive zone, and I think it’s a big advantage,” said Vorackek, who had his best game of the season. “….Both (of his linemates) are big bodies and I got a little more room.”
Since being recalled from the Phantoms, McGinn, 22, has five points, including three goals, in 11 games and is plus-3.
“He’s been such a nice addition to our lineup,” coach Peter Laviolette said. “He’s big, he’s strong, he finishes his checks. He fights once in a while, scores goals, sticks up for his teammates – all things you look for when a player is coming up. Positive contributions to our lineup, and it’s not just the goals; it’s the fact he gets pucks out on the walls. He does a lot of nice little things out there that have really made him fit in.”
Breakaways. Winger Jody Shelley was put on IR and may need hip surgery….Voracek has seven points in his last six games…..Luke Schenn had seven hits, giving him 55 in 14 games……The Flyers have killed 28 of their last 30 penalties (93.3 percent)…..Next stop: Newark, where the Flyers play the Devils on Friday.

Everyone acts like JVR played 80 games last year and put up 40 goals and 40 assists. He only played half the season and was invisible in the playoffs. He was pretty much a bust here. macd41144
Whats the story with this guy? Does he have pictures of someone? The word is clearly out to build him up at every turn. The games that I have watched, he has just been so so - yet listening to the announcers, he is the next Bobby Clark . Bobphxville
Love this kid ! ! BuddyBall92- The kid's good and will be for years to come... dogman5
