JVR out with broken bone in foot
James van Riemsdyk's season is not getting any easier.
In the first period of Thursday night's game against the Islanders, van Riemsdyk blocked a Milan Jurcina blast from the point and broke a bone in his foot, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren.
Originally, van Riemsdyk tried to remain on the bench to fight through the pain but soon left to get x-rays taken.
For now, the Flyers have offered no timetable for his return. He will be re-evaluated by Dr. Steven Raikin on Friday.
Van Riemsdyk, 23, just returned to the lineup on Feb. 18 after missing 15 straight games with a concussion. Previously, he missed 5 games in December with a torn muscle in his abdominal region. We've also reported he has been hampered by a hip injury for the better part of the season.
The former No. 2 overall pick has collected just 11 goals and 13 assists - as many points as defenseman Andrej Meszaros - since signing a 6-year, $25.5 million contract extension last summer.
Van Riemsdyk has just 3 goals and 5 assists in the 23 games he's played since Nov. 21.
