Hat trick for Schenn in prospects scrimmage

POSTED: Monday, July 11, 2011, 4:53 PM

Newly acquired Brayden Schenn scored three goals and added an assist as his Team White defeated Team Black, 6-3, in the Flyers' prospects scrimmage today at the SkateZone in Voorhees, N.J.

“It was our first game in about 2 months, so I didn’t know what to expect going into it,” Schenn said. “All I wanted to do is come in and work hard and I got a few breaks out there.”

Schenn, who was acquired from the Kings as part of the Mike Richards trade, scored one of his goals on a penalty shot.

“He’s just a bull on the puck,” Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. “He’s strong on the puck, he makes good plays and he’s a very competitive kid.”

Schenn said: “I learned a lot of new things from Lappy [Ian Laperriere] and the rest of the development team. Now I’m going to go home for the summer and work on that and better myself.”

Niko Hovinen, a 6-7 Finnish goalie, shut out Team Black in the first period.

-exrec.. I totally agree with you. I could care less about Stamkos. He is a one dimensional player and all but disappeared at the end of the year and into the Playoffs.

Paul 'dollars' Holmgren seems to be making all the right moves now.

Only Flyers writers would try and get people excited over a 'scrimmage hat trick'. I remember Jon Sim led the preseason in scoring a couple years back, how'd he turn out?? Save it for the regular season.

Billb91-LOL I think Schenn has a tad more pedigree than Jon Simms(no disrespect to him) but c'mon really. He did what he was supposed to do -he squashed inferior competition. That's better than him looking average with those boys. Let's try and give him a fair shot before we destroy him. I think he will be an excellent NHL player
