Will the Flyers make a move before the Feb. 27 trade deadline?

It may hinge on how well defenseman Erik Gustafsson plays.

Gustafsson was recalled from Adirondack on Wednesday as the Flyers sent little-used Matt Walker to the Phantoms.

Gustafsson, 22, who played well in a breif stint with the Flyers before suffering a wrist injury that required surgery, is expected to replace Andreas Lilja.

After giving Gustafsson a look-see, the Flyers will probably decide whether to pursue someone like talented Nashville defenseman Ryan Suter, 26, who could become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

The Flyers would probably have to deal one of their promising young forwards and some high draft picks to get Suter. Is that too much for a rent-a-player?

Then again, Suter is negotiating with the Predators, so there's a chance he signs a long-term deal with Nashville and is taken off the market.

The Flyers have $3.5 million in cap space.

Okay, nobody asked the big question, How was the goaltending in NC? The answer is The Bob was unbelievable. The defense sucked as usual and the Bob responded by "stealing" the game from NC. Something that we hoped the 51 million dollar goof would do. Now I know Sam wasn't watching but all you fans should have seen the domination in the net last night, pretty impressive!

You can pat Bob on the back all day for the way he is playing...and it's been pretty good. But he's not taking this team on a cup run. Won't happen. For every goal he steals from the opposition he bobbles a simple shot from the point. A flare for the dramatic is not his problem...it's consistency on the easy shots.

He's 22 at a position that takes far longer to develop.

Trading young talent would be a mistake at this point (as they are the only reason the team is winning lately), but one the Flyers have had a habit of making in the past. With the injury bugs out in full force in today's NHL, counting on a couple of veterans to make the difference is short-sighted and foolish. Unless they happen to be elite goalies, that is...something Philly has yet to find.

Bob did not whack the Bruins last night! Should have been Bryz in classic, Bob on Sunday. Its not rocket science. Love that loyal crowd last night, lots of people dressed up as red seats!

Trading young talent for a 26 year old isn't so bad, it's when they trade young talent for a 36 year old that hurts.

The Flyers actually have nothing in cap space, they have LTIR exemption space. With Walker being sent to the AHL, they can now afford to acquire a player with a full season cap hit of around $4.5mm, without moving salary off the cap.

Better to get a rental now and go after Suter in the summer.

The Flyers have no patience with prospects, why start now? Blow it all up, again and again and again.

Van, it gets out of hand sometimes (more so on the political boards than sports, esp. hockey) and you need to have a thick skin. I've thrown (and caught) plenty of s&*t myself. Banning is pointless - anybody who is banned probably just needs to get himself a new free email (Yahoo, G-Mail, etc.) and re-register with a different screen name. Look at that "Flyers Losers" guy - he's got about 4 different identities.

Yesterday it was Luke Schenn, today's flavor is Ryan Suter. Is tomorrow Shea Weber day? You're going to have to weaken your team offensively to get an impact d-man, so unless you are prepared to put JVR and/or Schenn in a package, then forget about these fantasies.

@1980- Yeah, I am normally pretty thick skinned and no I have never been molested. I am just stunned and appalled that people could think that way. People can call me a d i c k head all day long and I would not care. But to make references of innocent children being molested just crosses the line with me. I guess I had some hope that Philly.com has the capability to trace IP so that a poster can not just get a new e-mail and join again. Even at a minimum, let them lose their "id". It is just disgusting to me that someone would even think that kind of thought.
