To all you "Everyone knows what guerin brings to the table" people...using that logic, I think the Flyers goaltending issues could be cleared up by bringing back Bernie Parent!!!!!

Spazcat: Yeah, where are these supposed ESPN stats that show Carcillo drawing more PIMS than he takes? I just looked, never heard of that being kept. Please post the link.

After Giroux and JVR, the Flyers have drafted HORRIBLE forwards. A bunch of guys who can't score and bring little else to the table. And with their rotating grinder of defensemen, I have no faith in Marc-A-B just like Bartulius, Jones, Picards, and Sbisa before him. The bright light seems to be Bobo The Goalie so far.

kdubs215: Wrong again. The fans who know hockey are thinking of the Guerin that won the CUP in 2008-2009 (TWO YEARS AGO) and mentored Crosby and Malkin. Not five years ago. Does any Philly guy know hockey?

LiLAlConroy: Really? Guerin is plus 51 over 12 seasons. And last time I checked the only Stanley Cup Winners on the Flyers roster were Defensemen. NOT Richards or any other forward. Get it now?

A Guerin signing is the kind of pick-up to make at the trade deadline, not now.

I caught 2 preseason games and was not impressed by Guerin. I still think he would have been worth a signing as he has a proven track record. People should stop picking on Danny. He was fun to watch last year and he plays his heart out. Just don't put him out there at critical moments!

Not only did Pittsburgh let Guerin go, 29 other teams had little or no interest in him. It shouldn't be predicated on how well he played in preseason, but the guy displayed no effort.

Ray Shero let Guerin go. He had his shot. Everybody sooner or later gets too old to play. Everybody. End of story.

Not a surprise as he wasn't very impressive. Those of you fearing the loss of his room presence let's not forget that O'Donnell will bring a bunch of that as well.

So Holmgre's stubborness wins out over Laviolette's good sense? Ridiculous decision! Bill Guerin shouldn't have needed to have a good pre-season to make this team, everyone already knows what he brings to the table. The only thing Nodl has shown at the NHL level is that he can't play up here. I can't believe the shortsightedness of this move. Guess we couldn't have used 20 goals from the right side...who knew?

Glad we gave him a chance, but the right choice was made.

@Dianne16...Guerin could have been added and they would have been under the cap. Has nothing to do with the cap, but with Guerin coming in and showing less effort than a cinderblock

@Uncle Meat-Betts and Powe combined for 17 goals last year, and both missed significant time with injuries.

I'll give you heart....Paul Holmgren has no heart on kicking a 10 year vet to the curb because he didn't manage the cap. Billy G. may have had a bad preseason, but he does have heart. Dan Carcillo needs to put his heart in check. All those stupid penalities he takes game after game is breaking my heart.

Wow you hockey diehards are still in pre-season mode. Twenty-five posts and not one mention of "heart"! If this were the play-offs, the word heart would be in every other post.

From what I saw Carcillo was behind the play all the time. If he's not recovered from surgery send him down for conditioning and see if he plays well enough for a call up. He does hustle but he's got to learn to play with his head, otherwise he's just a nitwit out there hitting anything that moves (even if it is on his own team).

How about giving Jody Shelley a few games before you kill him.
He played great against the Flyers last season. I'm glad Homer signed him and can't wait to see him drop the gloves. Game on.

The Flyers gave Guerin more of a chance than any other NHL team was willing to, and he gave the Flyers no reason to keep him. If Guerin's name was John Doe, nobody would even bat an eye that he got cut for his performance in the pre-season.

Really sorry that the Flyers couldn't find room for Guerin. Letting him go is no huge loss, but he could have been a very valuable asset, especially to the younger wingers we are developing. Someone is going to pick him up and he will have a successful season. Good luck Bill.

Guerin was hurt (elbow) so couldn't show enough to surpass the potential of the young players.

I didn't watch every minute of every game but it seems every time I did, Guerin was turning over the puck. The league is moving a step faster than he now. As much as I was rooting for the guy, he doesn't bring enough else to the table. Hockey leaders can best lead by example, and when your example isn't that good anymore it's time to jet. You don't let go of your top checker and energy guy for a washed up winger. And no matter what anyone says Carcillo draws more penalties than he takes. Check the stats kiddies... they are available on ESPN. We are not going to need any more goal scorers, I am willing to bet we have one of the top 5 offenses in the league this year.

We already have the locker room voices - Prongs, Richie ect. No need for Billy G to add to that. His defense or lack thereof would have been a liability.

Shelley is absolutely needed this year, in this division. No more asham tug and hold bouts. With Boogs in the garden we need someone who is going to be able to throw atomic bombs for a change. Bye bye Cote et al.....welcome back the "Dave Brown" class heavyweight !!!

There's a decent chance that Powe, Betts, Nodl, Shelley, and Carcillo combined won't give you the 20+ goals that Guerin scored last year. I realize that they're not all supposed to be goal-scorers, but you get my point.

Guerin's done like dinner. Either that or he just played like the Flyers owed him a contract. Adios. There's a reason Pittsburgh let him walk when they need wingers.
