Giroux snubs media after another Flyers loss

Maybe Claude Giroux was upset at another loss, this one a 3-0 defeat to struggling New Jersey on Thursday.

Maybe he was boiling because the fans booed the Flyers throughout another listless effort.

Or maybe he was just disappointed in himself for failing to score a goal in his 21st straight game, including the first 15 this season.

Whatever the reason, the Flyers' captain walked out of the WFC and refused to talk to the media after the Flyers fell to 4-10-1.

Instead, the captain left it up to his teammates to explain another dreadful performance, one in which they barely tested 41-year-old goalie Martin Brodeur.

Good captains don't do that.

Forget about his struggles this season (zero goals, minus-11) on the ice _ struggles that could be connected to his preseason finger surgery after a bizarre golf accident.

Every player goes through a slump. That's just the nature of the game. It happens.

But there's no excuse for making your teammates be your mouthpiece.

Before he left the building, Giroux and the Flyers held a 15-minute players-only meeting. After the meeting, Giroux was in an animated discussion outside the locker room with Ed Snider, the team's chairman and the guy who signed off on his eight-year, $66.2 million extension.

Giroux patted Snider on the shoulder, apparently assuring him that things will turn around.

If they don't turn around soon _ like, say, the next 10 games _ it's time to call up some kids (Nick Cousins, Oliver Lauridsen, etc.), deal some veterans for draft picks, and start the rebuilding process.
